A Fig Tree

(Question)

I would appreciate an answer as to why, my fig tree becomes laden with figs in late august, and never gets to ripen, while waiting it gets cold and all the figs are frozen. This happens each year.
Thank you kindly for an answer.

Thank you for contacting Toronto Master Gardeners with your vexing problem of frozen unripened figs. You are not alone in experiencing this unsatisfactory harvest of Ficus carica.

The following article offers a number of solutions even including recipes to utilize those green figs.  https://theitaliangardenproject.com/stuck-with-green-figs/

The Toronto author, Steven Biggs, has written a book dedicated to the fruit: Grow Figs Where You Think You Can’t, lectureshas a blog and an online presence. While he grows his fig trees in pots which he overwinters in his basement, much of the information could be useful to you.

We wish you a wonderful harvest of ripe fruit this coming fig season.
