Thank you for contacting Toronto Master Gardeners.
We recommend adding well rotted composted materials to feed your cedars as they are ‘heavy feeders’. Additionally lots of water to get them established int he first 2-3 years. Mulching with a shredded bark will help maintain the moisture in the soil.
We receive a great number of questions about good maintenance of cedar hedges. Go to our archive, http://www.torontomastergardeners.ca/ and in the Find It Here search box type in “cedar” for a list of pertinent questions which you may find useful.
