Growing Indoor Plants in a west facing window

(Question)

Could you please suggest some indoor plants that would do well in a condo facing west. Preferably not high maintenance but attractive – some flowering and some just lush and green. Thank you for your help.

(Answer)

The following indoor plants should do well in a west facing window:

Rose of China (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis), African violets (Saintpaulia),  Christmas cactus (Zygocactus truncatus), Croton (Codiaeum), Spider plant (Chlorophytum comosum), Weeping fig (Ficus benjamina), Calamondin orange tree (Citrus mitis). Cacti and succulents will also do well.

Please note that there are dozens of books on houseplants available at your local library or the Toronto Botanical Gardens – Weston Family Library.
