Vine ID

(Question)

I’ve seen a number of these around my neighborhood (central Toronto), and would like to plant one in the front, just on one side of my porch. What are these called, and are they available in garden centres ?
My soil is a clay/silt base, but 10 yrs ago, I took off about 3 in. and replaced it with compost from our nearest municipal station. I mixed it in with another 3 in. of the underlying soil, and spread 3 bags each of topsoil and manure each year over the existing, mixing it in.
My front gets full sun in the afternoon.
Will I be able to successfully plant one of these ? When is it best to do so ?
Any other information on these is most appreciated.

Thank you for contacting the Toronto Master Gardeners with your inquiry.

The vine in your photo is Trumpet vine, Campsis radicans. The Toronto Master Gardeners website has a great deal of information on this subject which you can access by typing  “Trumpet vine” in the right had side of the page.

The growing requirements for this beautiful but potentially invasive vine can be found on one of our earlier posts entited Trumpet vine
