Apt balcony trees and plants and flowers

(Question)

We just moved into a west facing apartment.  There is not much sun in the morning however the afternoon sun is very intense. We would like to have some small trees which we can leave out all year.  What would you suggest?

(Answer)

I have attached the links  to  some articles with very good information and some recommendations for small trees and shrubs.  It is important to consider the potential size of the tree as it grows.  You should also check with your building management to ensure there are no restrictions on what may be grown on the balcony.

As you are facing west I would  add that you water well spring, summer and late into the fall and use mulch all 4 seasons.

Good luck with your project.
