Canna Lilies

(Question)

Hello,
I have been given some Cana Lily roots. Will they survive if I plant them in the ground now, or should I store them until the Spring.

Toronto.

Thank you

Thank you for contacting the Toronto Master Gardeners.

Tropicals have become very popular in the last few years and as a result we have fielded this question a number of times. The following is from one of our earlier posts:

“Yes, Cannas are fabulous plants and more and more people in Canada are using these tropical plants, grown from rhizomes,  to add some show and some exotic colour to their gardens. As they are not hardy to our growing zones though they must be brought indoors over the winter, if they are to be used again next season. I have attached a very comprehensive previous response. which will provide all of the information that you need on growing them, overwintering them and the various varieties available in Canada.  That said many reliable nurseries and online bulb companies offer a wide variety of Cannas.”

I hope that your garden is a show stopper next year!
