Christmas tree

(Question)

Hi, you posted about replanting your Christmas tree but didn’t respond to my Facebook comment clarifying if it’s one w the root ball still intact or this is actually possible w a cut tree.

Thank you for contacting the Toronto Master Gardeners.

Our Facebook posts states the following:

If you are planning to purchase a live Christmas tree, dig the hole now before the ground freezes. Keep the soil dug out of the hole in a place where it won’t freeze so that you can use it to back-fill the hole when you plant the tree after Christmas.”

The above posts refers to replanting of a Christmas tree with its root ball intact. Once a tree has been seperated from its roots it cannot be replanted and will not grow. If you are determined to plant your tree after Christmas make sure you  purchase a tree with a healthy root ball and make sure that you water your tree while it is indoors.
