Could you identify this tree type for me please?


Walking along steeles avenue, I saw this tree with large pods and am very curious about it.




It is difficult to be sure from the photo but it could be a black locust, (Robinia pseudoacacia).  The black locust’s decay-resistant wood was once used for railway ties, fence posts, stakes and pilings and shipbuilding. Unfortunately, according to Trees of Ontario author Linda Kershaw locust borer beetles often spoil the wood.
