Emerald cedar

(Question)

Would you recommend an emerald cedar to be planted in the garden near the entrance to our front door

(Answer)

It is difficult to advise whether the emerald cedar is a good choice for your garden, as we don’t know anything about your garden space.  For example, it is important to know whether the spot near the door receives full sun or shade, the type of soil in the area, and other plants that are already growing nearby.  As well, the size of your garden may be a factor, as the emerald cedar will grow quite tall and wide.

When choosing any plant, it is important to think about what it needs to thrive.   For example, the emerald cedar grows best in full sun, needs fertile soil that drains well, and must be watered often during the first few summers, until it becomes established.

As well, consider the size of the cedar when it is mature.  It will reach a height of 3.7-4.2 metres (12-14 feet) with a spread of  3-4 feet (0.9-1.2 metres).  Is there room in your garden spot for a tree of this size?
