I live in the Beach part of Toronto. Is it too late to plant a 2nd crop of peas? thanks so much for your time.
Peas are a cool weather crop so you can plant a second crop of peas now. Some varieties are recommended for fall harvest including from Stokes, Utrillo and Mr. Big, but all varieties can be planted in early spring and again after August 1. Pea seeds can survive a frost but the plants themselves can’t so make sure you read the package and pay attention to the number of days until maturity. Make sure to get them into the ground so that they will be ready to harvest before our first frost which in Toronto is around October 15. Peas don’t like and will not grow successfully if the temperature is too warm, so this is why we don’t grow them through the hot summer months. Enjoy your second crop of peas!
