I have a small formal front garden that is lined with boxwoods. Sadly about 1/2 of the boxwoods died this winter. I would like to plant hardier small evergreen shrubs in their place. Do you have any recommendations? I am done with the high maintenance boxwoods!
Sorry about the boxwoods — but how exciting to research new stalwarts for your garden! I think you’ll find your answer in our “Evergreens Suitable for Hedging: A Toronto Master Gardeners Guide”, which recommends several evergreen varieties you might want to consider. As well, see our comprehensive “Ornamental Shrubs for Various Light conditions: A Toronto Master Gardeners Guide”, which also provides many shrub suggestions (not specifically evergreens, though), as well as information about care and maintenance.
