Honey Locust Trees-Impacts of Various Insects

(Question)

I have two Honey Locust Trees in the front yard which every year have various insects such as plant bugs, midges, etc. The arborist recommends annual spraying each year with insecticidal spray (two applications). What will be the impact on these trees if they are not regularly sprayed with insecticide?

Thank-you for contacting Toronto Master Gardeners with your question regarding spraying Honey Locust trees.

I am attaching a link to an answer we posted in the past to a similar problem with Honey Locust pests. You will note that healthy adult trees are generally able to withstand these insect infestations without the need of an insecticide program. However, the arborist you contacted may have come to a different conclusion when observing the condition of your particular trees.

These resources relate specifically to aphids and plant bugs. Below, please find another link related to midges on Honey Locust.
