How deep should I plant sunflower seeds?

(Question)

How deep should I plant sunflower seeds?

(Answer)

As a general rule of thumb, larger seeds such as sunflower seeds should be planted at a depth of twice their diameter.  For sunflowers, plant at a depth of 1 inch and 6 inches apart.  If conditions are dry at the time of seeding consider planting a little deeper – 1.5 inches. Water well after planting.
