How can I force magnolias stems?
As we all know from attending Canada Blooms, it’s possible to force flowers much earlier in the season. But it’s possible to do it now too. Just choose some branches with fat flower buds, cut them at a sharp angle and bring them inside. If the branches are quite thick, split the end of the stem to allow it to take up more water. Put the branches in warm water. You can use some floral preservative if you have some.
Try to give the branches a cool, moist environment similar to the one they’d have outside. Don’t put them close to heat or direct sunlight. Change the water regularly, the way you would for cut flowers, and enjoy your indoor blooms a few weeks before they bloom outside.
