Identify the vine – wild grape

(Question)

I don’t know what this is –  it looks like a wild grape vine.  It’s in the hedge and on trees, in the sun and shade.  I’m in Sudbury and the soil is dry sand.

It is really hard to identify vines from faraway photos of leaves, but I agree with you, this looks like Vitis riparia (wild grape vine).  The Illinois Wildflowers site has a good overview of the plant, see Riverbank Grape – the fruit is a good source of food for birds and even our friends the raccoons and other animals.  Bees find pollen and several insects feed on the leaves of the wild grape.

For more certainty, consider clipping a length of the vine and taking it in to your local nursery for a positive ID!
