Identify this flower?

This picture was taken by my daughter in Northern California, and I’ve never seen anything like it. Can you identify it?

Luckily for you and me, another Master Gardener knew exactly what this lovely flower is. She and the plant hail from Australia. It is a native of Western Australia and has the moniker Kangaroo Paw (Anigozanthos flavis). They are often used in gardens in Australia, and make good cut flowers too.

As they live in climate zones 9 to 11, Kangaroo Paw would not grow here. According to my Aussie MG, the smaller cultivars won’t do well indoors, as it is cool and dry in the winter.
