I need a professional to treat my Magnolia tree. I don’t have a large budget and to buy the equipment myself and risk messing it up is a worry.
Can you recommend the most cost efficient way to treat or arrange for someone to treat my ailing magnolia. I prefer getting someone to come and do a great job! It is becoming very much covered , all over, by the insect. The whiteness has just started going down the trunk.
It is the Toronto Master Gardeners policy not to recommend any particular arborists. However, you should be able to find an appropriate expert by consulting the following websites:
- Landscape Ontario, which has contact information for tree specialists and arborists; and
- the Ontario chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA). The ISA website allows you to search for a certified arborist and the site also includes several Online & Downloadable Resources.
As with selecting any contractor, it’s important to find the right professional to help you, and to be aware that sometimes the “cheapest” contractor is not the right one for you. When speaking with arborists, if you find that the cost is prohibitive, don’t hesitate to ask them if they can recommend anyone who does good work and will do the job for less money. They have many colleagues in the industry, and may be able to recommend someone who meets your needs.
Finally, there is additional information posted on our website about scales — search the site using the words “magnolia scale” or just “scale” and several Q&A pop up – you may want to take a look at these.
