I have two mahonia plants which have thrived for the past 15+ years, but this spring they show no signs of life. I notice other mahonias in the neighbourhood (downtown Toronto) which look similar. Have my plants not survived the winter, or should I give them more time? (They look so ugly at the moment that if they are dead, I’d like to get rid of them now and plan what to do next.)
After such a severe winter and late spring, we can only be hopeful that growth will still happen. I suggest that you wait until June to see if there is any new growth. At that point you can better assess the damage and remove any dead parts. Best wishes.
