I would like to hire a master gardener to provide me with a list of alternative plants and to advise me on placement of plants for best results. I have a 20 year old perennial garden that I’ve managed to grow in the challenging shade of a thirsty maple tree and I am getting frustrated with the amount of weeding I have to do, especially between the irises. At the edge of the tree canopy I have carpet phlox, pinks, peonies, phlox, tiger lilies, black-eyed susans, liatris, daylilies, summer & fall asters, pulmonaria, wild geranium, and irises. Under the canopy I have hostas, bergonias, irises, tickseed, jack-in-the-pulpit, and pinks. With this variety of flowers there’s always something blooming starting with the daffodils and tulips in the spring. I need to find short sun-loving plants to replace the early spring irises at the front of the border and short shade-loving plants to replace the early summer irises at the back edge of the border. I believe this request is more than you can address through email so I would appreciate it if you could provide me with a list of master gardeners who offer design services (garden renovation) in East York.
Thank you for contacting the Toronto Master Gardeners with your inquiry. Toronto Master Gardeners is a not-for-profit organization run by volunteers. Our goal is to help the gardening public with education and up-to-date and relevant horticultural information. Unfortunately, this does not include providing on-site design services.
Most nurseries and garden centres provide design services and knowledgable staff that would be willing to provide you with a plan for your garden renovation. Also, Landscape Ontario’s website, contains a list of garden centres in your area: www.landscapeontario.com/garden-centres/chapter/ontario
