I recently bought a bag of blood meal from a local hardware store. When I opened the bag I noticed immediately that there were live moths inside and some small worms. Being a novice gardener and not having used blood meal before, I’m wondering the bugs in the bag are normal?
Oh my, how awful for you! Blood meal is supposed to be a dry, inert powder. It is an animal by-product, and perhaps the bag you purchased had a leak in it that permitted entry of water and insects, the latter to feed on the blood matter and lay eggs. I suggest that you close up the package and take it right back to where you purchased it, for a refund!
