Can you identify the attached shrub please?. It is flowering just now in Toronto.
Thank you for sending your garden query to Toronto Master Gardeners.
What you have been admiring are hardy Azaleas. The brilliantly coloured flowers have a star shape, bloom in clusters and come in shades of white, pink, orange, yellow, red and purple. There are many hybrids: those blooming in the spring and those blooming in the summer.
The key is to plant them in a sheltered location, in acidic soil and maintain moisture constant (not dry or too wet).
Hope this information is helpful.
