Thank you for contacting Toronto Master Gardeners.

The plant is Crown imperial (Fritillaria imperialis), a perennial bulb that blooms in Springtime. It is native to mountainous regions in Turkey, Western Iran and eastwards to Kashmir. In good growing conditions it will form large clumps. Its one downside is that it has a skunky smell.
