My garden is filled with perennials and I have one coming in that I can’t identify, so I am not sure if it’s a weed. I’ve attached a picture of the plant, and I’ve counted 4 growing in the garden. Should I let it grow to see what it is? Any assistance is appreciated.
This appears to be Epipactis helleborine, also known as broad-leaved helleborine. It is a type of orchid that was introduced to North America from Europe, and has proven to be a nuisance in many a lawn and garden because it can be difficult to eradicate. One root system can send up multiple stems, as shown in your photo. The best approach for removal is to dig it up, making sure to get all of the fleshy roots or else you might be visited by this “weedy” orchid again next year.
