Planting garlic in spring

I have a head of garlic that is sprouting green stems. Can I plant it in the garden now?

Garlic can be planted in the Spring as soon as the ground can be worked but Fall planting is generally recommended because larger and more succulent garlic is produced. When planting choose a well drained area with plenty of organic matter. Garlic grows best in a sunny location.  Cut off the green scapes (to encourage the growth of larger bulbs) and plant individual cloves (the largest ones) 5cm apart and 5cm deep in an upright position. Better results will be achieved if garlic sets are purchased rather than using store bought garlic. Detailed information on growing garlic can be found at:
