I live in Scarborough, Ontario. Could you please let me know when to plant sparaxis bulbs outdoor? (It is still cold outside. 5c today).
Have a nice day.
Yes, 2013 has been an odd spring, with a late frost warning, but your Sparaxis or harlequin flower should be okay to plant now – the bulb will be below the soil, therefore not in danger of frost damage above the surface. Generally, Sparaxis can be planted in spring after danger of frost. It grows natively in a Mediterranean climate, and likes wet, frost-free winters and dry summers.
You can find more information about growing Sparaxis at this link from plant-biology.com.
Enjoy your garden!
