(Question)

I would ike to plant shrubs / trees for privacy in front of a bow window. The only problem being it is a very shaded area. It gets sun around 4pm. Any suggestions.

Planting shrubs and trees around a house is a very common concept  known as foundation planting. Foundation plants help to frame a house and anchor it to the site. They can also provide the privacy that you desire. Here is a great article from Fine Gardening on the basic design principles of incorporating plants in to the landscape around your home:

Once you have decided on what kind of plants will work with the style of your home and your existing landscape, you must then consider several other things when selecting the species. You have mentioned that you will be planting them in shade. That is important to know. Where do you live, and what is the garden zone where you will be doing the planting? You also need to consider the type of soil that you have. Is it acidic or alkaline? (Rhododendrons and Azaleas will grow much better if planted in acidic soil.) Is it clay type soil or sandy soil?  You can have your soil tested by a reputable lab if you are unsure of this information. You should also decide how much time you are prepared to spend caring for your plants. Are you an avid gardener, therefore prepared to prune, fertilize and water regularly? Or would you prefer a low maintenance garden that will virtually look after itself. Do you want an evergreen shrub to provide interest all year round? Or are you more interested in flowering shrubs, to provide color in your landscape in the spring, fall or summer months?

As you can see there are many things to consider when deciding on what shrubs to plant in front of your bow window. Once you have considered all of these things. here is an excellent list of great shrub options from the Missouri Botanical Gardens. Visiting a local reputable nursery can also be very enlightening and their experts can help steer you in the right direction.

Whatever you choose, I hope that it will enhance your home and provide all of the privacy that you desire.
