(Question)
I have swiss chard growing in a pot. Tag says it needs full sun
but the leaves look burned when I put it in sun. It has good soil mix and a big enough pot. I don’t wet the leaves when I water it. Any ideas?
(Answer)
It’s late June and we’ve had a cool spring and start to summer, so it’s unlikely that the leaves are being burned by the hot sun.
We’ve had a few questions on chard, which you can search for on our website (just search on “chard”). For example, see
- Chard – Drying out? Insect damage? where dried patches on chard leaves were possibly from the leaf miner or slugs.
- Disease on chard: Cocoons… , which provides links with more details on leaf miners and also discusses the possibility of fungal disease.
Gardening Know How’s Sick Swiss Chard Plants: Identifying Signs Of Swiss Chard Disease also summarizes diseases that afflict Swiss chard, and how to deal with them.
