Is this an invasive insect in Vancouver? Never seen him before
Antennae appear ungainly
Unsure footing of back legs on leaf edge
Handsome black and white
May be able to fly

Thank you for contacting the Toronto Master Gardeners. This beautiful insect appears to be a Banded Alder Borer ( Rosalia funebris). It is not considered a serious pest as it generally infests dead / downed wood and not live trees.
