How far into the fall should we water lawn grass? The ground seemed moist this morning, when I looked at some plugs from my water measuring cups insert, as I considered watering this morning, and I postponed it until sunday morning, since the forecast for the beginning of the week for rain may let me off the hook…
Our resources indicate the best solution for fall lawn care is continued watering until frost. Depending on the amount and frequency of rainfall throughout autumn, it is recommended that the soil be kept moist. Our weather in Southern Ontario has been very dry through late summer and early fall, and as such, we suggest you continue watering as necessary.
There is never any guarantee that winter snow cover will provide sufficient moisture in the spring so your lawn may be thirsty after months of dormancy.
