I want to move some irises. They have finished blooming now. When’s the best time to relocate them?
It’s best to wait at least 6-8 weeks after they have bloomed and do not move them in periods of excess heat. Dig them up carefully, wash off the rhizomes to see if there are any soft, diseased or damaged parts that need to be cut off. Plant the rhizomes in a triangle of 3, about 1 foot apart, keeping part of the rhizome level with the soil. Water deeply for the first month to get them established. Do not mulch over the rhizomes.
