I live in Mississauga. Should I prune my apricot tree before flowering or during flowering, or when is the best time to prune the tree?
Thank you very much!
Like most fruit trees growing in our climate, the best time to prune an apricot is while it’s still dormant, just before warm spring weather triggers it into growth. You don’t mention how old your tree is: if young, it’s important to train it to an open form so that there’s plenty of air circulation and the sunshine is able to reach the fruit. More mature trees need annual pruning to keep them vigorous and bearing good crops. Here’s more information on how to go about it:
Hope you’ll be making lots of apricot jam this season!
