Will a Chanticleer pear tree which has lost appproximately half its branches, survive or should it be cut down?

I have a  8 year old  Chanticleer ornamental pear tree with 3″ trunk which had 2 main branches, one of which broke off in the ice storm  at about 2 feet above the ground leaving a 1″ deep gouge.  Will the tree survive with so many of its leaves gone?  Or should I cut it down?

I would wait and see how the tree leafs out to judge if it is going to survive. See if you like the shape as it grows new leaves and branches. If the spot where the branch broke off is ragged, make a cut with a sharp saw to make it smooth. This can be done in winter or early spring.
