August is the idea time to divide your bearded irises. Dig them up and separate the rhizomes. Any rhizomes showing signs of rot or borers should be discarded. Replant only the best – leave some foliage on each rhizome you plant. Rhizomes should be planted high so that they are exposed to the sun and the risk of rot is reduced.
