Transplanting Greek Oregano

(Question)

Hello, last year I planted a plant of Greek Oregano in my garden. This year I find this plant in the way of my garden layout. Can I remove this plant and put it into a 3 gallon container without killing it? Your help is much appreciated.

Hello – You should have no trouble transplanting your Greek Oregano into a container. Just dig out as big a root ball as you can.  Water the plant in well once you’ve firmed the earth around the plant in it’s new home.  You’ll of course need to water more regularly once it’s in a container than in the ground but it is a mediterranean plant so water sparingly.  Your oregano will be less winter hardy in a container so pull it into an unheated garage or shed for the winter.  Good luck!
