I planted Lupins in Spring and had a nice spread of seedlings – which were healthy.. they have been carefully watered and watched. Sadly to date they have grown approximately 7 – 8 inches.
How do I prep them for winter, since I have no flower to cut, as is usual in a blooming plant

Lupine seeds are usually started in the spring, 6-8 weeks before last frost date then hardened off and planted outdoors. Lupins can be grown in pots. What is interesting to note is that the larger the pot the larger the plant and flowering spike. Lupins grow a large taproot so it’s not only the width of the pot you should worry about but the depth as well. Once your Lupin’s roots are starting to show at the bottom of the pot it is time to transplant into a larger pot.
Like most plants grown in pots, Lupins will be vulnerable to frost damage if left exposed in a pot all winter. All the strength of the Lupin is in its roots so you need to protect potted Lupins over winter, by placing them in a cols frame or greenhouse. make sure to check on them periodically to make sure the taproot does not dry out.
That being said, the Toronto Master Gardeners serve the city of Toronto which is a zone 6 hardiness. Not knowing where you are located in Ontario it is difficult for me to advise you as to what is the best solution to store your lupins.
I would advise contacting the Master Gardener group in your area. This website will allow you to find the Master Gardener group in your area.
