Day Lilies

(Question)

I live in Scarbough. I have a large area of day lilies. They do well in the spring but after blooming the leaves die and I’m left with an ugly area. Can I plant something that would come up after the lilies are done? Soil is clay. Area is part shade, part sun.

Thank you

The house where I grew up in always had those orange indestructible daylilies that had come with the house.

Plants that are suitable companion plants for daylilies, can tolerate shade and can live in clay include: hostas (Hosta cvs.); Russian sage (Perovskia atriplicifolia) ; Blue star (Amsonia spp.) and perennial geraniums (Geranium cvs.)
