Disease of a grape tree

(Question)

Hi. I have a grape tree, and it looks like there is a disease spreading. Pictures attached. Can you please help me find a solution to the problem? Is there any home remedy? Sorry I couldn’t attach more than 1 pic due to the limitation of 2.1mb. Thank you

Thank you for contacting the Toronto Master Gardeners.

Your photo isn’t clear enough to make a definitive diagnosis, but there are a few grape vine diseases you could consider such as: Botrytis, Downy or Powdery mildew, Black-rot fungus and Anthracnose.

Good cultural practices and hygiene are very important when growing grapes — pruning to maintain good air circulation, cleaning up all debris on the soil from around the plant, clean up any fallen fruit, do not over fertilize, water during early morning hours at soil level (drip irrigation) in order to keep leaves as dry as possible, and sanitize any tools used for pruning.

Pests can also do a lot of damage to grapevines and these include Red spider mites, Wasps, Japanese beetles, Grape leafhoppers, Grape berry moths, and birds.

Take a look at the above possible problems and compare them with the actual situation in your garden to make a diagnosis. Once you’ve done this, it should be easier to determine a treatment going forward and your local nursery should be able to help you with product options.

We hope this information is helpful.
