Perennial Hibiscus

(Question)

Can i make tea from the petals of a Perennial dinner plate Hibiscus.

(Answer)

Thank you for contacting Toronto Master Gardeners about your question. It’s wonderful to read about a healthy (and very showy) hibiscus plant! Unfortunately, our policy prohibits us from recommending ways to consume plants or plant products like flower petals. We also cannot make recommendations for home-prepared remedies, teas or food based on garden plants. I have no doubt that you will find more information by using your preferred web browser. Please be diligent in your research before you harvest your plant for its leaves. Hibiscus has hundreds of species and cultivars not all of which are recommended for personal consumption. In fact, your particular plant, Hibiscus moscheutos, may not necessarily be a candidate for tea brewing. Good luck!
