Is it safe to put hanging plant like begonia outside yet?

(Question)

Received a hanging plant like begonia for Mother’s Day.  Is it safe to put it outside now?

(Answer)

Although it is mid-May, the month has been very cold so far. Begonias will not survive if the temperature dips below freezing, and in general, I’d suggest that you don’t keep the plants out overnight until the temperature is consistently above 10 degrees Celsius (50 degrees Fahrenheit).  By all means, though put the plant out during the day and enjoy it!

Note that the plants bloom best when kept in a partially shaded area, and should be watered regularly, but the soil should not be allowed to get too wet.
