kale disease

(Question)

Hello,
I planted some kale in my garden earlier this year and for the second year in a row, have noticed this disease on the back of the leaves.
Can you identify what the disease is, how I can get rid of it and advise if I wash thoroughly, are the leaves ok to eat?

(Answer)

We are so sorry to hear about the disease on the back of your kale leaves. The following two articles written by Toronto Master Gardeners may be of help.

The first article is specific to dwarf curly kale.

The second article talks about insects infesting kale.

We would caution you about eating any infested kale and would suggest that you discard these leaves.

Good luck in getting rid of what is ailing your kale.
