Marigolds

(Question)

In zone 4 and annual French marigold leaves are eaten. What pest is causing this and what solution do you suggest to counteract. Have removed from ground into pots to save. Wish to put back in our perennial border.
Thanks for your help.

Thank you for contacting the Toronto Master Gardeners concerning your marigolds.

Without a photo of the insect or damage to the leaves it is difficult for me to pinpoint the culprit. Before you can find a control you need to narrow down what is the causing the damage.

There are a number of insects that find marigolds quite tasty. These include: aphids, earwigs, caterpillars, leaf miners, snails and slugs, spider mites , thrips and white flies. This website lists information on how to control these pests.

I am attaching a link to a previous question & answer which deals with another potential pest of marigolds.
