A friend has fig trees in pots and puts them in his garage over winter. His garage is attached to his house. Would fig trees survive a Scarborough winter in a detached garage?

Here is a link to a previous question on the same issue, on the Ask a Master Gardener website Fig plant in unheated tunnel greenhouse. The bottom line is that the little trees cannot tolerate temperatures below freezing. The garage would need to be heated.
