Plant food application with hose

(Question)

How much of your plant feed can you put in the hose feeders please

(Answer)

Thank you for contacting Toronto Master Gardeners with your question about using a hose attachment to apply liquid plant food. Various plant food manufacturers list quantities of their product to add to water in the applicator. Toronto Master Gardeners do not recommend any commercial products. The best way of ensuring the proper amount is to read the instructions on your particular product.

There are many different plant nutrients for sale. Some promote seedling growth, others encourage blooms or vegetable growth. The plants you wish to encourage will determine the correct type and quantity of plant food you use. Keep in mind that every plant (annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees and lawns) needs slightly different attention and care. Most plants require a pH level 6.5 and adding nitrogen (N), phosphorous (P) and potassium (K) can enhance and change those levels. Plant food or fertilizer packaging will list the amounts of N, P and K in their product. On our website, you can search for any plant type and read about specific soil and nutrition requirements.
