Planting Advice tree seedling*

(Question)

Hi,

I was recently given two seedlings of Chinese Redbud (shrub) and a variegated redbud (I think). They seem very young to me and I wanted to know if I should plant them now.

Whether you should plant your two seedlings now depends upon the size of the roots and the size of the seedlings.  You did not specify size.  If the seedling has a substantial root system filling out the pot it is planted in, you may want to plant it in a sheltered shaded spot in your garden for the winter.  Mulching is always a good idea.   If the roots are minimal, leave the seedling in the pot, sink the pot into a sheltered spot in the soil, cover with a significant amount of mulch and keep your fingers crossed that we don’t have a super severe winter again this year.
