Pruning and maybe transplanting rose bush

(Question)

Hi, I have a rose bush (not sure what type), it’s being stifled by my rose of sharon plants. i’d like to transplant the rose bush. It’s now October in Toronto. What’s the best time to prune and transplant the rose bush?

(Answer)

We had a previous inquiry about moving roses which I am going to link here https://www.torontomastergardeners.ca/askagardener/moving-a-rose-bush-2/  You will find that the key to moving any plant is making sure it is well watered in, so if you decide to move it now please keep this in mind even if the temperature dips.  Ideally we want to make sure all plants and trees are watered up until the first frost.

We also have a great Gardening Guide to pruning roses which I will link here https://www.torontomastergardeners.ca/gardeningguides/pruning-roses-a-toronto-master-gardeners-guide/

I hope the above information is helpful and best of luck moving your rose.
