Repair Cedar Tree

(Question)

I have a Cedar Tree in my backyard which has bent due to the heavy snow that happened last winter. I tried using some 2/4 wood on the side(check pictures) but it doesn’t still straighten up. Can you help me with this? I live in Markham, Ontario.
Thanks

Thank you for contacting Toronto Master Gardeners.  I’m so sorry to see your damaged Emerald green cedar (Thuja occidentalis ‘Smaragd’).  You are not alone.  There were many homeowners across the GTA whose cedars were damaged by our heavy snowfall in March.  Refer to our previously published response to a similar query about Cedars Damaged by Snow Accumulation.  If the branches of your tree were not broken, your tree should straighten over time, as explained in the link above.  You may have to tighten the restraints gradually, over time, as your tree becomes straighter.   Good luck!
