Transplanting a White Birch Tree

On my cottage property situated near Goderich, On. I have several very large white birch that are now showing signs of age (losing branches, etc). At the same time there are dozens of young trees many about 60cms high. What are my chances of being able to transplant these to replace the older trees and when should this be done?

Thank you for contacting Toronto Master Gardeners. Yes it is possible to transplant a small birch tree.  The best time is when the tree is dormant either before it leaf’s out in early spring or in the fall before the soil freezes.  For more information please refer to the following links:
