Potted tomatoes on south west balcony

(Question)

How often should I water my tomatoes? How do I determine if they are too much in the sun? If so, what can I do?

(Answer)

Tomatoes love sun – preferably at least 6 to 8 hours of sun a day, so your southwest exposure shouldn’t be a problem. Water deeply until the soil in the container is fully moist, but don’t water again until the top inch of the soil is dry. Make sure your containers have drainage holes so excess water will drain to prevent roots from rotting. You may find this guide to growing tomatoes in containers helpful.
