Prolonging blooming season

(Question)

Hello,
If I cut my shasta daisy flowers to put in vases will it prolong the blooming season? Is treating the plants as cutting flowers going to cause reblooming or will it stop the plant from blooming again. Thank you. Glenna Talbot

(Answer)

Thank you for contacting the Toronto Master Gardeners.

Deadheading daisies not only improves their overall appearance but inhibits seed production and stimulates new growth, which encourages additional blooms. By deadheading regularly, you can extend the flowering season.

Daisies flower prominently for about a four week period, and often sporadically thereafter, especially if regularly deadheaded or lightheaded (cutting them for display purposes).
