Thank you for contacting the Toronto Master Gardeners. Your photo is a beautiful example of Lobelia erinus (Garden lobelia). This trailing lobelia is a popular tender perennial and as such it is usually grown as an annual in Toronto’s zone 6a hardiness zone. They thrive well during the cool early days of simmer; however they have a tendency to dry out during the hot dry days of summer. These plants thrive in full sun or part shade in organically rich, well-drained, evenly moist soil. Garden lobelia is definitely a show stopper in any hanging basket.
